12−1pm
Room C118 (see maps)
Parkland College, Champaign IL

As a designer Doug Burgett's focus is on visual organization. As an artist he embraces free expression. As an astronaut he endlessly explores. But as a person, Doug is constantly processing the collisions between these identities. In his presentation, Doug will discuss discoveries and ongoing struggles with merging art, design, work, and play within his life. He'll talk about his transformation from being a naturally creative child to an institutionalized young professional to a rebel without a cause, showcasing examples and cracking jokes along the way.

Doug Burgett is the Creative Director for the Office of Communications for Enrollment Management at the University of Illinois, where he also earned his bachelor's degree in graphic design and began his career within the Office of Creative Services. His team is responsible for the marketing and communication needs of nine units at the University, including the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Doug regularly presents both regionally and nationally on a variety of topics, such as web, design, and the creative process. In the past he has taught web design for the University of Illinois School of Art and Design and he currently serves as Chair for the University of Illinois Webmasters.
